P.O.D. - go-go style

I was looking up George Michael pictures for today's column. (I swear that's the reason!) This one didn't fit with the theme, but I had to share with someone.

Isn't it romantic?

Maybe in a way that only older men can be realistic and romantic all at the same time, this article was touching.

Enjoy, and hug your loved one.

Star Wars figurine update

As you no doubt recall, the other day I posted a video of two girls breaking a beloved Star Wars figure, all on the "charge" that one of them had a fiance who wouldn't give her an engagement ring.

I did not get the response I was looking for.

However, Koz sent me the follow-up video, and I now realize that the truth is much much worse.

I hate everyone involved in this whole situation, and I hope many of them find their way to Alderaan, if you get my meaning:

It's OK Susie, pet the nice dinosaur

Intelligent design "theorists" are astonished to find that dinosaurs walk amoung us!

Enjoy the nice cuddly dinosaur at LA's Natural History Museum. I got a kick from the parents telling kids "it's ok, pet him".

Enjoy!

Sia - Academia

I told you earlier about Paste Magazine, that Koz got for me. Along with every issue is a CD full of songs from up-and-coming artists. One was Sia singing "Academia." I'd actually hear of her. Her full name is Sia Furler, and I've been following her for awhile. Some readers have tried to get me into Zero 7, a group Sia has sung for.

Anyway, "Academia" is a nifty little song, and may make you want to check her out more. She sounds a little bit like a cross between Sarah Slean and the lead singer from Six-Pence None the Richer. And, since the lyrics come fast and furious, I have them copied below for you to follow along. Enjoy.

You can be my alphabet and I will be your calculator
And together we'll work out on the escalator
I will time you as you run up the down
And you’ll measure my footsteps as I blow through this town

The mean of our heights is divided by the nights
Which is times’d by the daggers and the route of all our fights
The pass of your poem is to swathe me in your knowing
And the beauty of the word is that you don’t have to show it

Oh
Academia
You can’t pick me up
Soothe me with your words when I need your love

I am a dash and you are a dot
When will you see that I am all that you’ve got
I’m a binary code that you cracked long ago
But to you I’m just a novel that you wish you’d never wrote

I’m greater than x and lesser than y
So why is it that I still can’t catch your eye
You’re a cryptic crossword
A song I’ve never heard
While I sit here drawing circles I’m afraid of being hurt

Oh
Academia
You can’t pick me up
Soothe me with your words when I need your love

You’re a difficult equation with a knack for heart evasion
Will you listen to my proof or will you add another page on
It appears to me the graph has come and stolen all the laughs
It appears to me the pen has over analysed again

And if I am a number I’m infinity plus one
And if you are five words you are afraid to be the one
And if you are a number you’re infinity plus one
And if I am four words then I am needing of your love

Oh
Academia
You can’t pick me up
Soothe me with your words when I need your love

Oh
Academia
Academia
Academia

Oh
Academia
Academia

P.O.D. - Women's Movement

When I was making today's ranking Supporting the Women's Movement, I ran into a couple of pictures that did not fit, but were great and I wanted to share.

I don't know what this is about.

This one is cool because you can't tell which way she's facing.

Obama on The New Yorker cover

The new New Yorker cover:

Is it:

A) A direct hit against Obama?

B) A satire of what the the far Right supposedly thinks Obama represents?

C) A satire of the Far Left, for thinking the far Right can be reduced to simplistic notions of what Obama represents.

D) A satire against people who read The New Yorker (and their ilk), pointing out their hypocrisy, since there have been repeated jabs against right-wing politicians (including the sitting president), with the outcry we see now.

E) All of the Above.

F) None of the Above.

If "F," what's your answer?

Daily Lynx - Mammary style

Some links to amuse you:

1. You gotta love the Female Breast. It already fuels something like 2/3 of the American Economy. Now boobies are going to solve the energy crisis. Good times.

2. Candles come in all sorts of strange flavors these days. But if Hot Wicks has their way, soon you'll be smelling dryer sheet candles, beer candles, grass candles, pigskin candles, and stripper pole candles. I only wish I were kidding.

3. From the "I swear I stumbled upon it accidentally" department, have you ever seen Gay Christian Horse Porn (with cartoon illustrations)??? Me, neither. Not really unsafe for work, but do you want to be caught looking at it, even briefly? (You're curious now; admit it.)

How could I have missed this primer on The Way of the Swayze?
Now you, too, can learn.

magnetic fields

Koz got me this magazine called "Paste." Every month it comes with a CD of (I'm guessing) up and coming artists. One of them that struck my fancy tonight was "California Girls" by Magnetic Fields. Sort of the opposite of the Beach Boys' take.

The music may sound scratchy, as if someone recorded the band live on a cell phone, but that's how it sounds on the CD too. I can only assume this is on purpose. (I'm too busy to do so myself, but if you like the sound, read up on them on Wikipedia.)

Anyway, when I heard the lyric, "I hate California Girls," I knew I had to dedicate this to Schrodinger.

Where's Wayne Brady when you need him?

Now,

I'm not saying all women are whores.

But I am saying that these two women are whores.

And bitches.

And cunts.

That's right. I went there. I don't know if I have used that word (in a negative way, at least) EVER, but I'm making an exception.

Koz sent me this video, and, mood that I'm in, I watched the entire thing. I'm not ashamed to say I cried.

Ladies, you know I've been your biggest supporter (literally) for a long time, but tell me how you justify this behavior. Tell me why I'm standing up for you, sticking my neck out with my ardent feminism, fighting the good fight against abuse, and not generally thinking all women are gold diggers.

TELL ME!!

I'm giving up on the human race.

Mallard here

I heard a little bit about a band starting, a band that was being steered towards me by that freaking lifesave Hyperion. This is the last time that I allow him to use the I save your life card upon me.

So, here I am, sitting in a hotel in San Diego, having to beg off of the New Kids on the Block reunion tour, which is not making me the biggest supporter where my wife is concerned and having to get on a commuter plane through Minnesota and then onto Providence. Thanks Hype, paying for 1st class is too much for you?? Anyway, Lindbergh Airport is nice, though not as nice as my cushy bed.

Dragon is a menace, probably still hopped up on speed or artificial sugar, pick your poison. And if I have to deal with that sexed up drama queen that is Koz for longer than a few weeks, I may have to tear what is remaining of my hair out.

But, there is the music. This little band was something special, even if it was on the bar circuit. They had a talent, as long as they did not play that Butterfly Cover, they were special, which is why I am flying coach out of San Diego.

P.O.D. - Jailbaity

More Jailbait - Monkey Barn style:

SEA HAG

DRAGON

or

LADY JANE SCARLETT

The Lady's Yes

I ran into this poem this morning and thought some of you might be sophistimacated enough to enjoy it:

The Lady's Yes
Elizabeth Barrett Browning

"Yes," I answered you last night;
"No," this morning, Sir, I say.
Colours seen by candlelight,
Will not look the same by day.

When the viols played their best,
Lamps above, and laughs below--
Love me sounded like a jest,
Fit for Yes or fit for No.

Call me false, or call me free--
Vow, whatever light may shine,
No man on your face shall see
Any grief for change on mine.

Yet the sin is on us both--
Time to dance is not to woo--
Wooer light makes fickle troth--
Scorn of me recoils on you.

Learn to win a lady's faith
Nobly, as the thing is high;
Bravely, as for life and death--
With a loyal gravity.

Lead her from the festive boards,
Point her to the starry skies,
Guard her, by your truthful words,
Pure from courtship's flatteries.

By your truth she shall be true--
Ever true, as wives of yore--
And her Yes, once said to you,
SHALL be Yes for evermore.

It's Getting Hot In Here

Raspberry & Watermelon Sparkling Ice Tea
Recipe by Dragon

This is a wonderfully refreshing summer drink. It’s a sparkling ice tea that is not too tart and not too sweet. My secret ingredient is cinnamon!

Serves: 9

4 cups boiling water
3 raspberry tea bags
1 cup raspberries
1 cinnamon stick
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons Raspberry Liquor
4 cups of watermelon, chilled, pureed/strained
3 cups sparkling wine , chilled *** (see note)

For directions, come to Dragon's Kitchen. I've spruced the place up for y'all.

International Eat Something New Day (and no, your neighbor doesn't count)

Some crazy holidays going on this week.

yesterday was International Pizza Day. Actually, you can celebrate this all week and be cool. I myself had a Three-Meats Totino's Pizza, baked on a cookie sheet (because I like it a little bit chewy).

Today is International Eat Something New Day. I'm contemplating ordering the new Island Fire Burger from Sonic. If not that, any suggestions?

Tomorrow is International Razor Burn Day. (I do have to shave, but maybe I can just cut myself a little.)

Friday, alongside Independence Day, is also International DUDE Day. I'm fairly sure you must watch THE BIG LEBOWSKI, at least for a few minutes.

Saturday is International Don't Drink Pee Day. You know, if you were planning on it, don't.

And the week rounds out with Sunday's International Blogocile Day. (Combination of Blog and Imbecile, and more than that you'll have to read Wordnerd's explanation.)

These holidays can be found at International Day. Enjoy.

Trailers before WANTED

I saw WANTED Monday night (review coming later today). Before the movie were some pretty cool previews. Here were a few of them.

THE MUMMY 3: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR - I think I've already showcased this one, although they had a new trailer (which you can see here). Jet Li might make it a neat movie, but I have to ask: was anyone clamoring for more Mummy?

X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE

Thoughts - Talk about nobody clamoring. David Duchovny has a new hit series on Showtime, so is Gillian Anderson that hard up for money? For that matter, why can't she make it in movies?

MIRACLE AT ST. ANNA

thoughts - I can't think of a single area where Spike Lee and I see eye to eye, but most of the time he makes great movies. MIRACLE will either rock hard-core, or absolutely suck. The trailer sure looks promising, though.

DEATH RACE

Thoughts - A remake of the old Death Race 2000 classic. That's Joan Allen as the bad guy, and Al Swearengen makes an appearance! This could rock.
