High Five Machine
My newest Motto was "borrowed" from my newest Twitter buddy, who may or may not be a cyborg robot. His name is High Five Machine, and here is the motto:

Lady Jane Scarlett = Monkey Terrorist?
I told Lady Jane Scarlett to come up with the new Logo and Motto for Monkey Barn.
Her motto:
Her picture:

Unfortunately, Lady Jane doesn't do spatial relationships very well, so the when her 300x300 picture went into the 900x300 frame, well....you see the result.
I like it.
I like it because if the banner were regular size (as it is above), one can clearly see that the "monkey" (okay, ape, but who's counting?) has been morphed with Che Guevara. Hyperion is not a fan of Che Guevara, who has more in common with bin Laden than Thomas Jefferson.
Lady Jane's explanation: "We're honoring him for his diary, not his political actions."
Fair enough. That's why we honor Anne Frank: 'cuz God knows that girl fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.
One other Lady Jane note:
If you will look down and to the right, you'll see I put up a Lady Jane Scarlett Widget. (Actually, a "Blidget") Similar to my own, this gives you direct access to Lady Jane's latest post.
I give LJS the sole honor of this to thank her for doing her best to post on Monkey Barn, and quality stuff at that. Would that her fine example light a fire under her monkey sistren and brethren.
Her motto:
A Cute Hat just doesn't cut it anymore

Garfield speaks for me
Normally I'm not a big Garfield fan, but the punchline of this strip should be the motto for the season!

Picture and Motto: a Team effort

This picture was supplied by Dominique
The motto comes from another one of you. I will leave it up to that person whether they want to explain:
"Where Heavy Boxers come to feel Loved"

Pigmonkey 2.0
No one seemed willing to color the pigmonkey, so I realized it was once again up to me:

Oh, and here's the new motto:

Oh, and here's the new motto:

Ride that Pig
"Is a Pig's Pussy Pork?"
The new motto comes from Lost Goddess, who gave it as one of her answers to Dragon's 47 questions.
As for the picture, you can save it to your computer and then color it in "paint." Post what you come up with (or if you are not a curent Monkey, send it to me), and I will make the best one the new picture.

Harry Potter and the Missing Motto

This is our new picture. I'm completely open on the motto, so give me a good one and I'll put it up there.

Dinosaur Comics back in the Hizzy
"Social Constraints serve a useful purpose. (I remember from the
trial!)"
The new motto comes directly from this most awesome Dinosaur Comic by Ryan North, which I was able to read for the first time just a few minutes ago. Long-time readers will remember that I used to be obssessed with Dinosaur Comics; it begins again. This motto could represent my entire life.
The picture I found in Google images. It's purty.

Blinded by the Light
This is the new Monkey Barn Picture. The motto comes from Manfred Mann's Earth Band. I know the lyrics are supposed to be something else, but you listen and tell me this is not what they are saying:
Speaking of obscure '70s songs, there is some song from tha decade that has, like, a 3 and a half minute intro. It is the single greatest intro I've ever heard in a rock song--all instrumental. Unfortunately, I've only heard the song a few times and can never get who sings it. Anyone who can help me will win TBJs. (Thankful Blow Jobs.)
That is all.
"Blinded by the light...wrapped up like a douche, another rumor in the night."

400th Simpsons
So, new picture. I did it in honor of the 400th episode of The Simpsons. The 399th was a spoof on 24, and quite clever in its own way, but the 4ooth was unbelievable, not flashy, but simply brilliant, and will go down as one of the best episodes ever when it's all said and done.
I was going to change the motto to my favorite quote from the episode, but I realized the current quote fit the picture better, so c'est la vie.

Go Hokies!
Hey, it's Tobias here. I haven't posted in a little bit, but I wanted to let you know where I was.
I've been touring the East Coast with my band (more on that another time). Anyway, two weeks ago we played at VaTech (which is what everyone there calls Virginia Tech), and I loved it. The Hokies have been my favorite team since Michael Vick was there (how can you not love the word Hokie?), and of course when everything happened we were in total shock.
At the time of everything we were up in Baltimore, and tried to get back to see if we could help, but of course it has been total chaos there in Blacksburg, and the last thing anyone needs is a river midget running around.
Anyway I wrote Hyperion and asked if the picture/motto could be something supporting the Hokies. Koz made a picture a while back, and I played around with that and got the picture below. (Don't hate on my awful editing skillz; I have none.)
My motto suggestion is the one they have on their website: "Invent the future." Hope that works for you all (and Hyperion).
Last I wanted to pass along a link one of the VaTech students emailed me. I AM NOT making any comments no it whatsoever--so not smart enough to do that, but it's almost incredible how much information is on there, and how quickly it changes in real time. You can almost follow the story just from this page.
Anyway, it's Seung-hui Cho's Wikipedia Page. (About him, not by him). Worth taking a look.
Catch you soon, peeps, and go Hokies!

New Photo and Motto - LJS
It's Lady Jane Scarelett's turn to pick this week's photo and motto. What a fine choice she made.

"Dude means nice guy. Dude means a regular sort of person."

The Tree
There was a mix-up in this week's picture and motto, so I came up with it myself.
Oh to be free of myself,
With nothing left to remember,
To have my heart as bare
As a tree in December;
Resting, as a tree rests
After its leaves are gone,
Waiting no more for a rain at night
Nor for the red at dawn;
- Sara Teasdale, The Tree
