Looking for a Scary Book - Monkey Barn Help!

So, every year around Halloween I try to read a new scary book that I haven't gotten to yet. I have no real criteria, other than I like to read good (=quality) books. However, when it comes to scary stories, it's almost more important that they're interesting/scary than how well-written they are.

You can forgive much bad prose if the story works, while no matter how well-crafted, if you're not jumping in fright, you've lost.

So, I ask the Barn:

WHAT ARE THE SCARIEST BOOKS YOU HAVE EVER READ?

The only book that ever kept me awake at night was "The Shining" by Stephen King.
Wickedly scary, better than the movie.
