Greatest Movie Insults

The first group is better than the second, which makes sense because he hit more of the iconic stuff first time up. There were a few I didn't know, but I got most of 'em.

Real Steel

Hard to believe they couldn't call this Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots.  This could be unbelievably huge if it's well-made.

YOUR HIGHNESS Trailer

I totally wasn't a fan of PINEAPPLE EXPRESS (by the same director) but this Trailer (WHICH IS R-RATED WITH SOME BAD LANGUAGE SO BE CAREFUL AT WORK) plays like PRINCESS BRIDE Starring KENNY POWERS.  It looks absolutely hilarious.

Green Lantern Trailer

Not sure if I'm excited about this or not.....

New Trailers at INCEPTION

One of the cool things about seeing a Midnight Premiere of a new blockbuster movie is that you get the newest (and potentially bestest) Trailers.  INCEPTION was no exception. (heh heh...that rhymed!) There were six Trailers - five of them brand new! I have them below, along with a few comments.

TRON: LEGACY

My friend Carlos thinks TRON: LEGACY will be bigger than AVATAR.  I think it's more realistic to shoot for being bigger than AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER. Cool preview, though.

WALL STREET 2: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS

The first WALL STREET was fantastic.  No reason this one can't be good, too, I suppose, but I'm not clamoring for it.  I'm more curious to see if male movie-goers connect to the love interest (Carey Mulligan) having shorter hair than the guy (Shia LaBeouf).  Guys tend to like longer hair.  (Not that I'm judging you short haired gals.  Way to buck the trend and rely on your personalities to get men!)

THE TOWN

"From the acclaimed Director of GONE BABY GONE" is scrawled up on screen, which made me giggle.  Not that GBG was a bad movie - it was terrific.  it's just that Ben Affleck directed it.  Affleck, whom I have criticized more than a few times for some of his acting choices and performances, DID do a great job directing that film, but he (still) has so little credibility that they have to downplay his role there, and hope people just remember it was a great film.  THE TOWN looks promising - set in Boston, about criminals...good stuff.  The only warning sign - Affleck is IN this one.  I'm not saying he can't ever give a good performance, but directing oneself is a different proposition than directing others.  I guess we'll see.

DEVIL

Do me a favor: watch the Trailer before you read the rest of this comment.  Are you back?  Good.  I thought the Trailer was incredibly bad-ass, as did everyone in the theater.  I will say, though, that when the credits started appearing at the end the Audience started laughing derisively and booing.  Just goes to show you what expectations can do, which is too bad, because this looks like a terrific concept.  I know I'm intrigued.

DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS - Most of you have seen this Trailer, so there's no need for extensive commentary, but check it out on YouTube if you haven't. (Looks pretty great.)

DUE DATE

Zach Galifianakis went from not getting his Comedic due to being in every other movie coming out.  At some point he risks over-exposure, but I suppose you got to get it while it's hot if you're an actor.  Robert Downey Jr. has always had fantastic comic timing, and even though I got just the barest hint of "better on paper than in execution" feelings ("Let's put RDJ and ZG on the road together!"), I'm still optimistic this will be a scream.

HE-MAN THE MOVIE

I'm sure it's not real, but MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, the movie?  Sweet!

Sherlock Holmes Trailer

Guy Ritchie could completely screw this up, but Lady Jane Scarlett and I were talking it over, and we agree we're excited. The young Holmes is quite Brash, and I think RDJ is inspired. (Lady Jane didn't didn't even bother to agree; she just swooned and rushed off to find her husband.)

Either way, SHERLOCK HOLMES is now a must see.

Klingon Language - An analysis

From Slate.com an actual Serious Scholarly Article about the Klingon Language.

Which leads me to this question: who's all going to see the new STAR TREK movie?

Trailer - HANGOVER

I'm not usually one to recommend a movie based on drinking and the lottery, but at least the trailer looks funny.

Best Picture Oscar Showcase

As many of you know, the last two years I have joined some friends to watch all Five Best Picture Nominees in one day. It's on February 21, the day before the Oscars. (The picture is last year's pass.)

Here is the link to the AMC Showcase page

It's $30 for an all-day pass, which includes some special souvenirs, and free drinks (and I think popcorn) all day long.

Koz is really hoping we do it this year (after he punked out like LaDanian Tomlinson in a playoff game last year), and I want to as well. Even though it's a pretty good deal, money is always an issue, but the bigger concern for me is health; can I physically get up there and back?

Anyway, assuming this old body can pull through, we're putting out a call to any Monkeys in the Atlanta area. You can't imagine how much fun it is to do this. We get lots of snacks, and argue with everyone around us during the breaks. Yes, by the end you're a bit of a zombie, but it's a good zombie-feeling.

So, like I said, we'd love for all of you to go. Email me (Hyperion) if you're interested, and we'll hook it up!

The SAG Award Nominations just came out this morning. I'm not going to take the time to prep all them for posting (also I'm ticked at SAG right now), but you can see them here.

I have thoughts on the TV nominations, but I'm hoping to complete an end-of-the-year TV column, so I'll save my accolades for that. I haven't seen most of the movies, which isn't a surprise, since they often don't come out until late December or even January!

I was shocked THE DARK KNIGHT didn't get a Best Picture nod. I thought it would be a lock. I guess we'll see how Oscar thinks in a few weeks.

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

What have you seen, and do you agree with these nominations? Disagree? Why?

More Amazing DVD offers

The other day I posted some incredible DVD deals. These are so amazing it's hard to believe, but true. I'm not sure anything can beat 19 seasons of Simpsons on DVD (8 of which aren't even available in America), for $170, but there are a few jaw-droppers that I didn't get to post the other day.

The Cannes Film Festival has a 60th Anniversary package, with 60 movies. They look to be all the winners of the Palm D'Or. It costs $160.

Then there is the Oscar Classic Package. It includes an astonishing 96 movies, including many of the Best Picture Winners (and all nominated movies that are famous) for $210. You should click just to read the list!

And what may be the biggest draw, Disney has their 100 Years of Magic Collection, which actually comes in a Golden Treasure Box! There is a 150 disc edition, and a 132 disc edition. I just looked at both discs, and the only thing the 132 disc edition is missing is a few Barbie cartoons and a couple of Disney Fairy tales. It's not worth 50 extra bucks. Anyway, the 132 disc edition has everything you've ever wanted, from all the regular disney movies, to the Pixar movies, to all the Donald and Mickey and Minnnie and even all the Whinnie the Pooh and Tom and Jerry. You have never seen anything like it. It's regularly priced for 1000 bucks, and the lowest I've seen is $250, but here it's $170.

All of the items have a $17 shipping, but when you consider how much more expensive these would be anywhere else, they're just steals.

Also, remember to visit the home page to get coupon codes for 5, 10, or 15% off.

And feel free to get me something! (I'm going to put up a wish-list tomorrow, Tengri willing.)

More Shopping

Dude, I have deals for you. I found a site called One Click, and the DVD offers are incredible. So much so that I questioned it, but looking into matters, it's legit. They take paypal, and are Visa guaranteed (which means that if your purchase went sour Visa won't charge you for it, same with Amazon or anyone.)

The trick is, it's in (I think) Korea, and as such there is a hefty shipping fee added. Even with that, the deals are still eye-popping, but to get your money's worth I only included Box Sets. Make sure you look at the home page for coupon codes (depending on how much you're ordering.)

Dude, some of these offers aren't even on DVD in America yet. Wait until you get to the very last one! There are multiple versions of several of the offerings (different distributors), so poke around if you want. I am giving the lowest priced ones, but you may want another. For example, the first offering (Deadwood) has another full series set with an additional bonus disc, but it costs 9 bucks more. Enjoy!

I am not paid for this. I don't get kickbacks. Just wanted to pass on the deals.

Thank Heaven for Little Girls

I was doing some research into the movie GIGI, and I ran across this little gem, which ends the film. I cannot believe they were able to get away with this song. Were people really that innocent, or is this another Shirley Temple Situation, where they slip the sex in?

There's no way they could remake this now, although I shudder to think what a Cover version would sound like.

EDIT

Skittles left a comment that in the actual film it's Maurice Chevalier. I think the version above was actually first, but I'm not sure. This version is plenty creepy, too. I want to see this movie, now.
