"This sombre series of portraits taken of people before and
after they had died is a challenging and poignant study. The work by German
photographer Walter Schels and his partner Beate Lakotta, who recorded
interviews with the subjects in their final days, reveals much about dying - and
living."
Be sure to read the stories below the photos. Haunting and beautiful.

This bothered the Hell out of me. It was like the photographer was stealing dignity from the people once they were dead. I agree the pictures were haunting and even beautiful, but it felt like ghoulish voyeurism, not art.
